Restaurant Review: Las Brasitas
…or as my friend Meredith and I continued to call it all throughout our dinner:
Las Brrrrrrrase-e-e-etas (it’s way more fun that way)
Tonight was girl’s night with my best friend, and after contemplating a few restaurants to try, we finally agreed on this place since neither of us had been yet.
We came with an appetite.
Upon being seated we promptly ordered some cocktails (housemade Sangria for me!) and were served some of the best salsa and guacamole I’ve ever tasted (I think the 1 bowl of guacamole and multiple salsa refills made that very clear to our waiter)
Alongside these flavorful dips were baked plantain chips. Let me just say: These. were. awesome. They were a nice twist on the traditional chips served at many Latin American restaurants. Very light and simple. I couldn’t stop raving about them.
Mere enjoyed her guacamole with a frozen margherita (she let me have a sip and it was muy delicioso)
And ordered the Sopa de Frijoles Negros, a velvety-rich black bean soup with fresh cream, onions and cilantro for her appetizer…love the design
(I tried a few bites of this and was a big fan. I plan to make my own version in the Simply Savor kitchen soon!)
For my entree, I ordered 2 dishes. First up, the Ensalada de la Casa which was a delicious combo of organic mixed greens topped with hearts of palm, plum tomatoes, goat cheese tossed in passion fruit vinaigrette.
Delish. Loved the big chunk of goat cheese, and the hearts of palm were a fun addition (I actually couldn’t figure out what they were while I was eating this, but glad I know now!)
I also ordered the Ceviche Brasitas. Described on the menu as our specialty of shrimp and calamari ceviche marinated in citrus juices, fresh cilantro, avocado, tomatoes, red onions and jalapeño pepper
The tangy juices from the lemon and lime perfectly complimented the seafood and chunky bits of avocado. The mini umbrella and cute fish plate my dish was served in definitely added to my enjoyment of this meal!
Kristen’s Taste:
Food: The fusion of flavors had a Spanish/Caribbean flair that was refreshing, new, and unique. Each dish left me curious to come back and try more options on the menu. (Although I would still go back based on the salsa, guacamole, and plantain chips alone)
A-
Ambiance: Warm and inviting. Only downside was very little lighting (mostly by candlelight), although depending on the occasion would make for a nice romantic setting. B/B+
Service: Extremely friendly and accommodating A
Price: Not something I could afford on a daily basis, but worth every penny for a fun dinner out (like girl’s night out!) $$$
Mere and I both agreed that Las Brasitas was a hit. Hope to be back soon!
Question for you:
What are your favorite restaurants to go when dining out?
This is a tough one, but I’d have to say all Asian food (Chinese, Japanese, Thai…you name it) and Lebanese food (love tasting platters of hummus, kabobs, tabbouli, etc.)

That restaurant sounds great! Housemade Sangria, guacamole, and plantain chips- love it all
I guess my favorite restaurants for dining out would be sushi, Caribbean, and anything New Orleans…Creole, Cajun- that sort!
Have a fabulous day!!
Your blog is off to an amazing start! I am very impressed! Have fun with it! It looks so good so far.
Thanks so much Kelly! Great meeting you at the Summit this weekend!
ooo plantain chips sound amazing!
i love sushi restaurants and the mongolian grills like Huhot.
-muffy
ooh i’ve heard of mongolian grills but have never been. looks like i’ll have to put that next on my list of new places to try! thanks
This post literally left me salivating! Everything looks incredibly yummy, and I love the way you gave ratings to different aspects of the dining experience.
In terms of my favorite types of restaurants to frequent, it really depends on my mood. Sometimes I love to get dressed up and eat a fancy seafood dinner, whereas other times I prefer to grab a table outside and enjoy a messy burrito. I just love going out to eat in general
.
So glad you liked the ratings system Lauren! And i agree with you–whether it’s fancy or casual, dining out is always a great experience (especially when surrounded with good food and good people)
Hey Kristin!
I am so sorry I didn’t comment that I saw your shout-out; I really meant to! Anyway, you’re definitely entered
Loved your review on Las Brasitas! Your pics were awesome – did you get a new camera? I also enjoyed your video – too cute! The apron was a nice touch
Thanks Nicole! Nope, haven’t gotten a new camera (keeping my fingers crossed for my birthday coming up)

Awesome review! OMG, I wish I lived there and could come check out the restaurant! Great blog post! Photos are awesome!
Everything looks great! I love going to vegetarian/vegan places and Asian restaurants.
This place looks awesome! I love that they serve plantain chips instead or tortillas. Guac and salsa are sooooooo good. Love that black bean soup too (one of my fav dishes). Hmmmm Josh and I love Mexican but we also love good seafood
