Vegan Dark Chocolate Brownies with Sea Salt
Good morning Simply Savor-ers
Thanks everyone for your great cereal suggestions and favorite pancake additions from my last posts—I have plans to try out all of your ideas soon.
And welcome to any new ZestyCook readers out there!
I did a guest post today for Zesty while he’s away. It’s one of my favorite recipes for Lowfat Whole Wheat Sour Cream Coffee Cake—so feel free to check it out!
Unfortunately, salsa dancing was canceled last night, but my friend (Hi Kristen K!) and I more than made up for it with some red wine, a classic Hollywood musical, and a brand new dessert recipe for all of you to try that was sinfully delicious (…and did I mention vegan??)
While baking, we kept saying that we’ve been disappointed with many vegan desserts we’ve tried–either they’re too dry, or not sweet enough, so with this recipe we made sure these brownies were super moist and melt in your mouth-chocolaty-rich.
We also added an extra twist to your typical chocolate brownies by playing on the contrast of salty/sweet which made for a really unique flavor combination. Hope you enjoy!
(Note: If you don’t like salty/sweet flavors, then don’t include sea salt and enjoy these dark chocolate brownies on their own!)
Vegan Dark Chocolate Brownies with Sea Salt
Ingredients
3/4 cup whole wheat flour
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1/2 cup cup brown sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1/3 cup canola oil
1/4 cup soymilk
1/2 cup maple syrup
2 tsp vanilla
1 cup Ghirardelli bittersweet 60% dark chocolate chips
3 tbsp sea salt
Directions
-Preheat oven to 350 degrees
-Mix dry ingredients (flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder and salt) together in bowl
-In a separate bowl, combine the wet ingredients (maple syrup, soymilk, oil, and vanilla) and stir
-Slowly add dry ingredients to the wet ingredient bowl with wooden spoon or spatula. Add in chocolate chips (be careful not to overly mix the batter)
-Pour brownie batter into glass pan (8 inch) sprayed with cooking spray.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes.
-When ready, remove from oven and allow to cool
Enjoy with a nice glass of milk
